Handsome Charlie’s Customs was built on a lifelong passion for craftsmanship, innovation, and problem-solving. The foundation of our work began around the age of ten, learning the fundamentals of carpentry from family and developing hands-on skills in a home garage workshop. Those early experiences established a deep respect for quality, precision, and hard work that continues to define our company today.

After high school, the founder pursued a degree in nursing at the University of Kentucky and worked in the medical field beginning in 2009. In 2015, a career transition into the skilled trades led to joining an engineering-focused company specializing in concrete slump solution equipment. This role provided extensive experience traveling across the United States and internationally while combining engineering principles with hands-on fabrication, welding, machining, and production systems.

That technical background naturally evolved into woodworking, manufacturing, laser technology, and restoration through involvement in local makerspaces. Handsome Charlie’s Customs began as an incubated business at Kre8now Makerspace, where advanced tooling, collaboration, and creative exploration helped shape the company’s vision. When Kre8now closed, a new chapter began with the founding of Lexington Makerspace, a nonprofit organization dedicated to teaching woodworking, fabrication, laser technology, and skilled trades to the local community, students, and aspiring makers.

Today, Handsome Charlie’s Customs operates with a growing team of over eight skilled employees specializing in woodworking, custom fabrication, metal production, laser welding, laser cleaning, restoration, CNC machining, fiber laser cutting, CO2 laser engraving, and advanced manufacturing solutions. We proudly partner with businesses, contractors, manufacturers, and individuals throughout Central Kentucky and beyond to provide custom furniture, architectural elements, river tables, industrial fabrication, marine restoration, paint and rust removal, production consulting, and precision repair services.

Our laser welding and laser cleaning services provide innovative solutions for metal restoration, corrosion removal, paint stripping, precision repairs, and surface preparation with minimal material distortion and exceptional accuracy.
